The Shadow- Sept. 4th

The original artist was an early rider of the grunge wave out of Seattle in the late 80’s. Their guitarist turns 55 today. Their singer has a new solo album coming out called Higher Truth. The song today was the lead single from their blockbuster 1994 album Superunknown, and it’s about a guy who plays a unique eating instrument.

The Shadow artist is a jazz quartet from Deutschland that specialize in covering 90’s grunge, metal, rock and more. They particularly like doing RATM songs. Dig?

The 5 O’clock Shadow is made possible by New Belgium Brewing.

The Shadow- Sept. 3rd

It’s a bluesy Shadow today… Both the original and shadow artists are from the same state and the song describes a natural disaster in that state but really is a metaphor for the composer’s relationship problems. The original artist isn’t well known but was a huge influence on the shadow artist’s vocal style. The shadow…

The Shadow- Sept. 2nd

The original artist took their name from the William S. Burroughs novel, Naked Lunch. This song is from their 1974 album about baked goods with good reasoning. The song is about any friend with half a heart, that will help you get over things. The Shadow artist is an alt-rock band from Chicago that will…

In The Mix: Pure Bathing Culture

Sarah Versprille and Daniel Hindman have been making music together for several years. They played with Andy Cabic in the band Vetiver for a while where they began to connect musically before going on to play shows as Pure Bathing Culture. They got a lot of attention back in 2013 with the release of…

The Shadow- Sept. 1st

The original artist was a pop group from the Isle of Man. At their core, the group consisted of three brothers, only one of them is left, and today he turns 69 years old. So the song is perfectly appropriate, and even more so, since it’s used for the rhythm when being taught to perform…

The Shadow- Aug. 31st

The original artist is a Long Island rock band that had their most influential and widespread hit with this song. It was used appropriately in the 1979 slasher classic Halloween. The Shadow- Aug. 27th

The original artist asks you a question with this song. And the answer is “yes”. This 1958 song was the biggest hit for this San Francisco soul singer. The song has been Shadowed dozens of times; Cliff Richard and the Shadows, The Beach Boys, John Lennon, Dave Edmunds, and more. Including the artist today, that…

In The Mix: Gospel Machine

Minneapolis quintet Gospel Machine describe themselves as a “garage gospel” band. Their music brings to mind some of the greats, like Otis Redding and Sharon Jones, and it’s that garage-grit and attitude, along with frontwoman Jayanthi Kyle’s stunning vocals, that make their sound so authentic. We’ve taken notice here at WTMD, and we think…

The Shadow- Aug 26th

The original artist is an indie project from Seattle and they are not delivering your mail, despite the name. They did “give up” a great album in 2003, and this song comes from that one and only album, and I guess it’s about what happens when our bodies finally go. And I can’t spell the…

In The Mix: Boy & Bear

limit of love

We’ve been fans of Aussie band Boy and Bear since 2011, when we first heard their smooth and infectious, emotionally driven indie-folk rock. Their debut album, Moonfire, swept the ARIA Awards that year, winning them five awards out of seven nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Group. Their song “Feeding Line” was…
