Baltimore Unsigned

If it’s made in Baltimore, you’ll hear it on Baltimore Unsigned — every Tuesday at 9 p.m.

For the past five years, Baltimore Unsigned has showcased the best of the Baltimore music scene through album cuts, live performances and interviews. Hosted by Sam Sessa, The Baltimore Sun’s entertainment editor, the show is a weekly tour through Charm City’s music scene. Anything is fair game, including rock, pop, hip-hop, bluegrass and experimental music.

But WTMD’s commitment to Baltimore music goes beyond Baltimore Unsigned. The station plays Baltimore bands every day, side-by-side with national artists. We believe quality music should be heard by all – no matter where it comes from.

Sam Sessa has been the host of Baltimore Unsigned for five years. In that time, he has interviewed hundreds of Baltimore bands, covered events such as South by Southwest and the Virgin Mobile Festival and contributed music news stories to the station’s daily shows. Sam is also The Baltimore Sun’s entertainment editor.

New Beach House ‘Wishes’ video is sheer insanity

Ray Wise sings "Wishes" in the new Beach House music video.

Beach House just released the delightfully bizarre video for their song “Wishes,” directed by Eric Wareheim (of Tim and Eric) and starring Ray Wise (of many B-movies). Wise lip-syncs the song, standing on a football field, while cheerleaders and colorfully dressed “athletes” perform “sports.” It’s best just to see for yourself: How did this come…

First, an apology: Sorry it’s taken so long to begin posting these. Due to the way we produce Baltimore Unsigned every week, it does not appear in the usual WTMD playlist. So to help the situation, we’ll be posting Baltimore Unsigned playlists after the show airs on Tuesdays (it re-airs at 4 p.m. Sundays). Here’s…

In case you were not fortunate enough to catch their stellar performance last night on Baltimore Unsigned, you can listen to Sam Sessa’s session with The Bellevederes below. Dan Deacon’s 22-minute epic “America” will air on Baltimore Unsigned tonight

Dan Deacon’s new album, “America,” is officially released today, and to mark the occasion, we’re going to play the entire second half — a 22-minute classically inspired ode to the United States. Why would we do such a thing? Because this is WTMD, where we support Baltimore musicians. And few musicians are as crucial…
